Methods and refresh

54 candidate figures checked, 40 kept. The findings use government data, trade reports, original consumer surveys, a university price index and restaurant transaction research. Each sentence identifies its population, period and unit. Repeated takeaways and table rows are not additional findings.

The state compilation applies three stated energy amounts to EIA’s residential rates for every state and DC. It estimates electricity only; it does not estimate beans, milk, equipment, cleaning or savings. Nameplate wattage is not treated as measured energy. Downloaded costs retain more decimal places than the display.

Survey shares, USDA forecasts, monthly ICO trade and retail price samples remain separate. Figures from different populations are not averaged or added. Use, ownership and willingness to pay are different measures.

Next price review: November 24, 2026, with the next announced EIA release. Full review: April 28, 2027. For a correction, send the figure and its original publication.
